Margin vs markup
Margin is profit as a share of the selling price. Markup is profit as a share of cost. A 25% markup is a 20% margin, and a 50% margin is a 100% markup.
Count every cost
Include everything you spent on the stone: purchase, cutting, treatment, laboratory fees, shipping, insurance and commissions. Costs left out make margins look better than they are.
Target pricing
Enter a target margin to get the selling price that delivers it, which is the right way to quote.
How to use it
- Enter the purchase cost.
- Enter other costs such as cutting, treatment, lab and shipping.
- Enter the sale price, or a target margin.
- Read profit, margin, markup and the price needed.
